1. Where do I collect the campervan / Can I park my car?
The collection and return of our VW Campervans is from our base at Inver, County Donegal, about 10 mins outside Donegal Town. We cannot deliver any campervan to any other location. Please see our location and address on Google Maps on our home page. We offer complimentary off-street parking for up to two vehicles per booking and this is at the customer’s own risk and you will be asked to sign a disclaimer to this effect.
2. Is insurance included in the price?
Fully comprehensive self-drive insurance is provided in the price by Drift Away Campers Ltd. to the driver(s) named on the Booking Form. You cannot transfer your own insurance cover for our vehicles and our insurance does not allow for a reduction of the excess or a Collision Damage Waiver. Drift Away Campers campervans may only be driven by the Hirer and/or agreed additional Drivers (at an additional daily rate of €10/day/additional driver up to a max of 2 drivers) who have been accepted by Drift Away Campers Ltd. and their Insurance Company. The Hirer is insured for damage to the campervan and third party damages. In the event of any damage to the vehicle or third party the Hirer will be responsible for the insurance excess of €1000 per case not rental.
3. What are the Driving Licence Requirements?
You can drive our VW Campervans with a standard car driving licence.
All named Drivers must be over 25 and under 70 years of age and all European drivers must have held a full licence for at least two years. EEA Licences must be held for a minimum of 5 years and US & Canada licences for a minimum of 8 years. All penalty points/convictions or accidents must be disclosed at time of booking. We do not accept international drivers licences.
4. How do we Pay?
Drift Away Campers operate a secure and PCI DSS Compliant SOTpay+ Secure Payment Link. Instead of asking clients to provide their payment card information, Drift Away Campers simply generate a secure branded payment link to the customer, which can be sent via email, SMS, or electronic invoice, enabling the customer to remain in control of their card data. This also allows us to take the security deposit and manage the return of the deposit to the customer. We accept payment by the following Domestic and EEA Debit and Credit Cards: VISA, Maestro and Mastercard through the award winning PCI DSS Compliant SOTpay+ Payment Gateway.
5. Is there a Security Deposit Payable?
Yes. A €1,000 Security Deposit is payable and is a refundable deposit and covers both any insurance excess that may be payable and the proper return of the Camper in the same condition as it was let out to the Hirer. The security deposit is payable within 1 week of the start of your hire period and is payable via Credit Card or Debit Card. This deposit is taken as security to cover the possibility of damage, whether through negligent, wilful, accidental or otherwise, loss to the van or the fixtures and fittings therein or the living equipment and windows, wheels, tyres etc included with the van. A credit/debit card is used for the purposes of holding the security deposit. Please ensure that there are sufficient funds for the security deposit.
The security deposit will be refunded within 14 days of the vehicle being returned on time, to the correct location, undamaged, with a clean interior, a full fuel tank and with all equipment in place and intact and all tolls and fines paid. We reserve the right to retain a €100.00 valeting fee if the Campervan is not returned with the interior in a clean condition. The security deposit is held for up to 14 days to ensure that all tolls and parking or speeding fines
6. Is breakdown assistance included in the price?
Comprehensive Breakdown Assistance is included with our VW Campervan hire.
7. Are Pets Allowed?
For the comfort of future guests and to maintain the high standard of our Campervans, pets are not permitted.
8. Can Child seats be fitted in the Campervans?
Each of our VW Campervans has two seatbelts in the rear seats to allow the fitting of a child booster seat which we can hire as a chargeable extra. We do not hire baby seats but you may fit these yourself into our VW Campervans.
9. Can I travel abroad in the Campervan?
Drift Away Campervans are covered for travel only within the 32 Counties of Ireland and Northern Ireland. They cannot be brought across the water to mainland UK or to Europe.
10. What Height are the VW Campervans?
Our Campervans are 2.1 m high with the roof down. Our VW Campervans have pop-top roofs which may only be raised and used when parked up. They must not be driven at any stage with the roof popped-up. You are responsible for ensuring no damage to the roof of our VW Campervans and you are not insured for damage to the pop-top roof which is caused by negligence of driving under Barriers or in Carparks or other places where there is a height restriction of less than 2.1 metres. Such damage is deductible from the security deposit.
11. Where Can I Park Up at Night?
Ireland has a vast array of private campsites which allow Campervans to park up at night and there are numerous guides which highlight these which are shown on our Useful Links Page. You can also wild camp responsibly outside of busy towns and villages so long as you do not break any local Bye-Laws and you are sensitive to the local environment and residents. Our VW Campervans have on-board power for the fridge/freezer and lighting and this will last for several days whilst parked up, but is topped up by using the engine and at campsites you can plug the camper into the mains power to operate 240 Volt appliances such as hairdryers etc.
12. Do the VW Campervans have a Toilet?
We have invested in state of the art, compact and hygienic portable flushing chemical toilets which may be hired as part of our Toilet Package on our Extras page. This allows you to stay off-grid for several days. We also offer a Pop-up toilet tent in which the portaloo may be positioned for extra comfort and space. We include Chemical Loo Liquid, Chemical Toilet Paper as part of the hire package. You are responsible for emptying the Chemical Toilet at designated public toilets and campsites and the portaloo must be returned emptied and cleaned at the end of your hire. Failure to return the toilet emptied and clean will result in a deduction of €50 from the security deposit.
13. Is Smoking Allowed?
We operate a strict no smoking policy with regards to our VW Campervans. If we suspect that smoking has occurred during the rental period then we reserve the right to withhold €100 of the Security Deposit.
14. Is there a Mileage Restriction?
Here at Drift Away Campers we want you to relax and travel where you feel you want to within Ireland and Northern Ireland and we do not have any daily or weekly mileage restrictions.
15. How many people do our VW Campervans sleep?
Our VW Campervans are perfect for 2 adults, or 2 adults and 2 children or 4 adults. They have a main double rock and roll bed which sleeps two adults and a double bed in the pop top roof ideal for two children or two adults. We also offer a Camping Package as a rentable extra comprising of an easy pitch spacious 4 man tent, two inflating sleeping mats, 2 pillows and cases and 2 all-season sleeping bags and liners.
16. Do You Provide Bedding?
Unlike most of our competitors we supply full complimentary bedding and large towels for two adult guests which is included in your rental package. This includes a double duvet and cover, base sheet, two pillows and covers and two large towels and even a hot water bottle. For extra guests we offer a very reasonable rental sleeping package which can be seen on our rentable extras section. Due to Covid-19, if you would prefer to bring your own bedding then we can advise on what is required.
17. Do we Hire Bikes/Surf Boards?
Due to the compact nature of our VW Campervans and the delicate nature of the pop-top roofs, we do not provide carriage or rental for surfboards or bikes at this time. Bike rental and surfboard rental is available in a multitude of locations for daily rates along the Wild Atlantic Way.
18. Covid-19 Affected Bookings
1. If due to government restrictions in the Republic of Ireland, you have made a booking and it is not permissible to travel either outside a specific distance or County and this affects your booking, then you may reschedule your booking to a future date (if available) or we offer a full refund. The same will apply if the restriction affects a hirer from Northern Ireland.
2. If domestic travel is permissible and yet you or one of your travelling party find that you have:
a) Contracted Covid-19 within 14 days of your travel dates;
b) Been determined that you are a close contact of a person who has Covid-19 with 14 days of your travel dates;
then Drift Away Campers will allow you to reschedule your booking to a future date (if available) or we offer a full refund.
3. All other cancellations for any other reason than outlined above are subject to our Cancellation Policy outlined on our Terms and Conditions Page.
